Not always the best decision criteria. Wired Magazine writes about Wired: the A/B test. , data-driven design. You show different versions of the website to different users, and measure which version get the best results. The webpage is updated frequently (every 15 minutes??) based on these tests.
Evolution in action, over a very short timescale, and only allowing for local optimization– this approach does not (easily) allow for large-scale innovative changes.
Summary of the article:
You have to make choices.
The person at the top makes the call.
Data makes the call.
The risk is making a huge mistake.
The risk is making only tiny improvements.
Experience teaches us lessons.
Data can make the very idea of lessons obsolete
